A nation outraged!

Another rape in the metropolis and a ghastly one at that and the police is once again on the mat. The outrage over the incident poured onto the streets and the media and rightly so. The masses at large feel outraged and cheated, outraged over the sheer beastly nature of the incident and cheated over their right to a free and safe movement within the confines of the capital of the nation, right that needs to be guaranteed by the state meant to provide proper governance.

The Delhi police, one of the finest police forces in the nation is once again in the firing line. Perhaps they have been in the firing line so often, that by now they would have realized that the heat would melt away in a few days, anyway with the election results round the corner. The moot question however remains is whether the police could have prevented what happened and whether they are to be blamed to the extent they are actually being.

While watching the debate on Times Now yesterday, I could not help but commiserate over the plight of the young joint commissioner of police who obviously like all bureaucrats with little real authority over his domain had to respond to uncomfortable charges. I could visualize his request for additional force and police control vans doing the rounds of the great Indian bureaucratic system that does not fully authorize those accountable. I was also aghast at the attitude of some of the participants who were not in favour of capital punishment that indeed may prove to be the biggest deterrent for such crimes against humanity. Perhaps physical castration may be the best bet.

I often wonder how one sector of the massive governance machinery excel in isolation when the efficiency of the entire tantra is below par. When shall all of us who are a part of the tantra start appreciating that authority and accountability have to be in matched sets for delivery to be possible. Unfortunately empowerment and systemic improvements remain a utopian dream as much in the police as in the rest of the system.

Is it not unfortunate that merely beating around the bush is what keeps most of us in the sarkari tantra occupied? In the absence of adequate empowerment, quick decision making processes and complex contractual mechanisms topped up by a fair sprinkling of mistrust inherent in the governance machinery, we are indeed getting a taste of our own medicine!

Nation building requires the toil of generations and unfortunately we never toiled. The society is indeed at the receiving end of what it deserves.

  1. I just could not control my rage over this issue. Capital punishment means easy exit. No, these bastards do not deserve easy death. A punishment which becomes a unforgettable lesson for others needs to be given and for that leave those bastards in the hands of public. They will treat-- tit for tat... The sex organs of these bastards must be cut down and they should then be left of the streets to be killed by the public.
We need changes in the law. Justice on the spot. Forget justice from government and bureaucrats or courts of law... they are useless...justice is both delayed and denied.

    1. I agree. We have to have deterrent punishment and castration and public flogging would be the best. What we really need is good governance. The present form of governance has really failed the nation and what we generally are witness to are symptoms. The government has to radically change the decision making processes and contractual mechanisms.

  2. I'm little surprised at the reactions in above comments & also being shown in media at large. Rather I'm highly surprised in the swift way the govt. has acted.
At the same time, I also think how unfortunate we are, when so well read and who's who of the society react showing as if they have woken up as how ghast act can be done to any one and try to show their concern, God knows how much concerned are they.
No one till now commented why this happened at all or what was the root cause. Moreover, for how long have this been happening or where has this been happening or even more importantly, have those preaching holy sermons he media have ever actually never indulged in such things or the ways.
This all has been a reality to our eyes every day, every moment, every where.
The answer of the root cause is our so highly held culture strenghened by the religions. Not from the day a child is born but far before the beliefs are infused of what is rights and what is wrong. The cultural carriage is carried on & on farther. This shapes the mind and the direction. Then there is so much of lies, hypocrisy that realty gets suppressed.
To some it may come as a surprise that such acts are almost unknown in tribal societies. Whom we say as backward to call ourselves forward.

Till when shall we run away from the reality, after all how big hypocrite do we wish to become.
Actually, people are so weak that they aren't able to speak their mind. They hate politician but play politics.

Women only have to be given the space they deserve as humans in the society. Unfortunately, this so called glorified culture does not entitle them so and so is the case with other sub humans.

Sometimes, it seems that religion & culture have done irrepairable damage. However, in youth there seems a ray of hope because they aren't as religious as their parents.

The humans need awakening from their deep sleep. The whole thing has to be undone.

Law cannot help help if people having the mandate to implement it, lack will to do so. Castration can never be the solution because the thought shall remain. The thought has to be fought to be thrown into oblivion.

What can governance do when it cannot enter the thought & mind. Expecting answer to 5k years old questions in 5 days is neither practical nor logical.

The human thought has to be born in the self and it will take birth by awakening the self,by awakening the soul. only then shall we be ever free from from such inhuman acts.

  3. While trying to find solution for any problem, think of the situation and causes in holistic way, not partly. I will sum up and add to the above comment like this:

    1. You have to work at two ends:

    a. A boy shall be taught to respect a women. The cultural preachings begins from childhood at home.

    b. But its human to err. You cannot expect 'Satyug' that no one even thinks of raping. So, we must have castration policy to deter the repition of such heinious crime.

    2. Strict laws and its enforcement and will to enforce is must.

  4. We have to,even if we do not wish to, find solution & not brush up to show something un real.
The problem is not this incidence, it's incidences happening all around and inside us. Running away will not yeild solution rather, it will aggravate. It has to be fought head on. It's all foolish & rubbish to say this satyug or that kalyug. it's always this time & this yug.
This all is happening due to history. correction back in time is not possible, correcting historical mistake is possible.
what law will do when law depend on people with will to enforce it.
we all know us, still we think I'm other than the other.
it's not erring that is human, to realise err after doing is human. the realisation has to be there. law cannot & never will get realised he realisation.
suppression means pressing something to stop it to come out. energy needs exit. it's foolish to even think fear have the power to encounter power of energy.
